Pastor Rick Nylund
Title: Pastor of Student Ministries
Wife: Denise
Children: 2
Years at CCC: 7
Rev. Rick Nylund is Pastor of Student Ministries at Clayton Community Church. He feels “he has the best job in the world” because he gets to hang out with high school students and talk about life and how Jesus wants to show us what real life is all about. He also feels “the teenage years are not always the easiest” and he wants them to know that he’s always up for "sharing and talking about what they’re going through or other teen age topics."
Rick grew up in the East Bay spending most of his time kicking a soccer ball. In high school, his favorite classes were English and Math. Afterwards, he attended Oregon State University where he received a degree in Construction Engineering and later started an engineering consulting firm with his Dad. He loved working in the engineering business but felt that God wanted him to serve by being more involved with people’s lives, especially young people. So he went to Fuller Seminary and began praying how he could best serve God. Since then God has allowed him to share the love and hope of the Gospel as the youth pastor at Clayton Community Church.
Rick loves to hang out with his 3 beautiful girls: his wife, Denise, and two daughters. His favorite movie is “The Matrix,” and his favorite music is “Blues” (he played harmonica in a college blues band), and he loves any book by C.S. Lewis. Rick and Denise have been members of Clayton Community Church for the past seven years.
Rick loves being a part of Clayton Community Church because “it’s a place where you can be yourself and people treat you like loving family.” His biggest goal in our youth ministry is that everyone experiences being “both fully known and fully loved.” He feels that kind of life “begins with a friendship with Jesus and grows through following him together with others who are also learning to devote their lives to God.” This is the kind of life he’s learning to live and he would love to have you be a part of it, too!
