Open Doors…
I remember I was puttering around in my kitchen one afternoon when I heard the jangle of keys and clattering of the front door being opened. Our middle son, Kian, came bursting in, plopped his backpack down, kicked off his flip-flops and stomped upstairs with a puzzled (and annoyed!) expression on his face.
"Since when do we lock the front door during the day??" he asked (well, more like accused!).
It was one of those “mom moments” that I treasure; I also learned that my sons tell their friends the door will be open and to just come on in.
Since that moment, I began to do two things: 1) make sure I’m fully dressed whenever I come downstairs! and 2)pray that God would help me make every single person who walks through my front door feel welcome and feel the presence of His Spirit in our home.
Our Greeter Ministry at CCC has a vision statement, which is “to welcome people into the family and kingdom of God.” My prayer for our ministry this year is that God will teach us how to make every single person who walks through the “front door” of our church feel welcome and feel the presence of His Spirit in our church home. I pray that we will bless our church family and our community with the knowledge that our church has an “open door policy”.
When a person has a genuine love for others and enjoys taking the extra minute to smile, extend a hand, offer help, it shows. Our volunteers in the Greeter Ministry overflow with that kind of genuine caring and I am blessed every Sunday when I see God at work in each one of them.
